Falling in love with typography

This Pinterest is one addictive thingy I tell you. Neither orkut nor facebook could do this to me. Not even farmville. Umm. I am lying about the farmville part but whatever! I am totally drooling over Pinterest. I love the fonts used in Pinterest as well. See, I am crazy.

And that’s how typography happened. I am a self proclaimed font fan. I am also one of those whose “rough notes” was and continues to be filled with doodles and quotations in different letterings. Just that I now choose to do it on K’s files and he practically locks his stuff inside drawers. Living with me isn’t exactly easy.

Anyways.

Wikipedia may tell you a lot about typography but to me it is the art of writing letters or numerals or any character creatively and making it look appealing and beautiful. Pinterest has a lot of it!

There was this time when I used to spend hours deciding the fonts on my presentation or even copy fonts  from microsoft as headings/sub-headings in written assignments. I somehow used to feel that fonts and letterings spoke about a person. I am not talking of handwriting analysis and the like per se but fonts often depicted my mood and emphasis.

When pinterest and a few blogs talked of typography, I got curiouser and curiouser. I have a cursive writing style thanks to the strict english teachers who always wanted a tail before everything. I experiment with it but there is an ocean of letter styles waiting to be explored.

No prizes for guessing what I am upto since 2 days.

All these are copied from pinterest and not my own creations. But even copying them gives me a high and a whole sack of ideas of what to do with my letters. These are probably stitching patterns. They’d look good on a handkerchief or on the cover of a personal diary, wouldn’t they? Pretty vintage, I’d say! I am not too big on haberdashery yet and so will give that a pass for now.

These aren’t perfect. But that’s exactly why I like them. I should cut down on the jagged lines though.

I had a whale of a time making these. More alphabets beckon. Let me go attend to them. Are you font crazy too? Please say yes. Some kindness before Christmas that will make me feel good is much appreciated.
